Let the numbers be 2x and 3x.

When 4 is subtracted from both,
( 2x – 4 ) : ( 3x – 4 ) = 3 : 5
5 ( 2x – 4 ) = 3 ( 3x – 4 )
10x – 20 = 9x – 12
10x – 9x = 20 – 12
x = 8

Therefore, the numbers are 2x i.e., 2 × 8 = 16 and 3x i.e., 3 × 8 = 24.
