The two palm trees are of equal heights and are standing opposite each

other on either side of the river, which is 80 m wide. From a point O

between them on the river the angles of elevation of the top of the trees

are 60° and 30°, respectively. Find the height of the trees and the

distances of the point O from the trees.

Answer:

height of tree is 20 root 3 and distance from point O is 20 and 60 .

Step-by-step explanation:

Let height be H

and distance from point o is X and another is (80- X)

so we have 2 triangles ,ABO and DEO

in triangle ABO

AB/BC------tan 30

H/X --- 1/root 3

so root 3H -----X---------------(1)

in triangle DEO

DE/CE. --- tan60

H/80- X ----- root 3

H ----80 root 3 - 3H

H+ 3H -------80root 3

4H----- 80root 3

H----80root 3 / 4

H----20 root 3

putting value of H in (1)

root 3 multiply by 20 root 3 ----- X

20 multiply 3 ----- X

60----- X

and another is 80- X

80-60

20
