The two thieves made certain mistakes in their plan to steal the jewel. What are they?

In the story "A Question Of Trust", The two thieves made certain mistakes in their plan to steal the jewel was that the real culprit was the woman who bluffed to be a person of the family who was living at Shotover Grange. She fooled Horace into thinking her and cleverly carried off all the jewels that were protected in the safe. She was seldom calm on discerning Horace. This appeared strange sufficiently. When she did not phone the police, and rather asked Horace to bring out all the jewels from the safe, even if it implied smashing it open, it appeared pessimistic. Also, it also appeared uncertain that she would not remember the numbers for opening the safe. Hence, it was apparent, before the story finished up, that the lady was not the individual Horace had thought her to be.
