HYDERABAD: In a move that could have repercussions across the country, the state government wants to set up its own Telangana State Administrative Service (TSAS) to better administer the state. Hit by a severe shortage of IAS, IPS and IFS officers, the state government is seriously examining a proposal to create the new service to fill up all cadre posts with officers who will be equivalent to those from Group-1 and Group-1 B in the present structure, ac cording to sources.
The Telangana State Public Service Commission, in consultation with senior GAD (general administration department) officials and the department of personnel and training (DoPT) of the central government will decide the guidelines. The TRS government made several requests to the DoPT to allot at least 40 IAS, 35 IPS and 30 IFS officers to the state to ensure smooth administration, but the requests failed to yield the desired result due to acute shortage of officers across India.
