The Partition of Bengal was completed on October 16 in 1905, by then Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon. It was done keeping in mind both administrative as well as political reason.

Bengal was as large as France but with a significantly larger population. The eastern region was seen to be neglected and under-governed. By dividing the province, an improved administration could be established in the East which would help the population from new schools and employment opportunities.

Apart from this reason, Bengali Hindus were in the forefront of political agitation for greater participation in governance; their position would be weakened, since Muslims would now dominate in the East.

Explanation:

It was told by Lord Curzon. The partition of Bengal in 1905 and the annulment of the partition in 1911 was a momentous event in the history of Bengal and the whole of India. It was an important factor as far as the genera administration of India was concerned. However, it was a careful plan to divest indvidual ways for the Hindus and Muslims of Bengal, as the British were too keen on going for divide and rule policy.
