USA initially resisted involvement in the second world war because they did not want to face the economic crisis after the war. Meanwhile Italy, Japan and Germany signed a Tripartite Pact. So, Japan extended support to Germany by bombing US naval base, Pearl Harbor. Now US couldn't resist involvement and it reacted by dropping off an atom bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
