Vernacular novels contained much knowledge and information about the society it's - customs, beliefs, practices etc. These novels were written by Indian local (not in quality) writers. They gave their views about society in India and particularly their own locality. The colonial administrators didn't know anything about India. These novels helped them in undestanding the people and society of India.
