the valency of sodium is +1 and that of chlorins is -1 why ? give reason.

Sodium atomic number is 11 and chlorine atomic number is 17.

Both reacts and sodium give its extra electron to Chlorine and complete its electronic configuration and Chlorine accepts that electron to complete its electronic configuration.
