Given : An Circuit showing Resistance , inductor & capacitor in series and Voltage across resistance 40 V , inductor 30V & capacitor 40V

To Find : Voltage applied to circuit

Solution:

Voltage leads by 90° in inductor

Voltage lags in capacitor by 90°

Hence Voltage across inductor and capacitor are in opposite phase

VL  = 30V

Vc  = 60V

| VL - Vc|  = | 30 - 60 |  = | - 30 | = 30 V

Vr   = 40V

Voltage across resistance & other voltage in 90° Phase

Hence Resultant Velocity = √40² + 30²

= √1600 + 900

= √2500

= 50V

applied ac voltage v in the circuit shown is 50 V
