Solution :

First of all, form relationship between cist of rice and sugar by forming linear equation.

1) We are given that, Cost of 12 kg sugar = Cost of 6 kg rice

➝ 12x = 6y

➝ y = 2x ..... equation 1

2) Also, Cost of 10kg sugar + Cost of 8kg rice = Rs 1040

➝ 10x + 8y = 1040

Put value of y from equation 1 into equation 2,

➝ 10x + 8(2x) = 1040

➝ 10x + 16x = 1040

➝ 26x = 1040

➝ x = 1040 ÷ 26

➝ x = 40
