by saying that the equation has distinct roots we mean that all the roots(solutions) of the equations are not equal to one another.
In general the equation x2−22=0==>(x−2)(x+2)=0 has two distinct roots, which are 2 and -2.
Whereas the equation x2−2x+1=0==>(x−1)(x−1)=0has indeed two real roots , but which are equal and are -1 and -1 .
