Given :

The value of fraction remains unchanged when we increase the numerator and the denominator by 1.

To Find:

Find value of fraction.

Solution:

Let numerator is N and denominator is D, it is given that value of fraction remains unchanged when we increase the numerator and the denominator by 1:

\mathbf{\dfrac{N}{D}=\dfrac{N+1}{D+1}}

Let value of fraction is k:

\mathbf{\dfrac{N}{D}=\dfrac{N+1}{D+1}=k}

From first and third of equality :

\mathbf{\dfrac{N}{D}=k}

N = k D                                           ...1)

Now from second and third of equality:

\mathbf{\dfrac{N+1}{D+1}=k}

N+1 = k (D+1)

k D + 1 = k D + k              (where N = k D)

On cancel out each other, we get:

k = 1

Its means that value of fraction is one. Numerator and denominator of fraction are equal.
