The value of Kw is 9.55 x 10- 1 4 at a certain temperature. Calculate the pH of water at this temperature.

Solution

Kw = 9.55 x 10- 1 4

For water [H3O+] = [OH-]

If, Kw = [H3O+] [OH-] = 9.55 x 10- 1 4 then,

[H3O+] [H3O+] = 9.55 x 10- 1 4

[H3O+]2 = 9.55 x 10- 1 4

In the last step we have taken hydronium and hydroxyl ion concentration to be equal.But if it is so then the pH will be 7.It means we are already assuming the thing which we need to find.

Help me Please.In am very confused in numericals of this chapter
