Explanation:

Experimental data on the decompression wave speed data of a conventional gas mixture and three other rich gas mixtures with varying C1 from 70 to 82% were collected. A total of 12 tests were conducted with various gas compositions (C1, C2, C3, iso-C4, n-C4, iso-C5, n-C5, N2, and CO2) and different initial pressures ranging from 21.5 to 10 MPa. Experimentally determined relative change of decompression wave speed between dry gas and two-phase region agreed with GASDECOM predictions within a few percent. Small and low-cost expansion tube can be used to predict decompression wave speed for a pipe with propagating crack providing that measurement are taken relatively close to the membrane. Decompression wave speed determined from the linear fit of all pressure transducer signals was further deviated to the left of both GASDECOM and that obtained from the first pair (P1 and P8). The decompression wave speed determined from pairs of transducers farther away from the rupture was lower than the corresponding one determined from a closer pair. The measured decompression speed was much higher than that predicted by GASDECOM. When the decompression wave crossed the two-phase region from the dew-point side of the envelope, the plateau part of the measured Pr-Wave Speed (at 8D) occurred at higher values of Pr than predicted by GASDECOM. The deviation of the measured wave speed was to the left of that predicted by GASDECOM. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the AGA 2003 Operations Conference (Orlando, FL 4/27-29/2003).
