Explanation:

Let Re be the equivalent resistance of the circuit.

since , 3 Ohm and 5 Ohm are in series connection.

So,

Rs =(3+5) Ohm.

=> Rs= 8 Ohm. .........………….......................{1}

Now, 8 Ohm and Rs are in parallel combination.

So,

1/Re =1/8 + 1/Rs

=>1/Re=1/8 + 1/8. [ Using {1} ]

=>1/Re=2/8

=>Re= 8/2

=>Re= 4 Ohm. ……............................................{2}

R =Re= 4Ohm. Answer
