They are the ratios of sides on a triangle. for example sin is opposite / hypotenuse and the opposite side will only reach as far as the length of the hyptotenuse. when it is this length the ratio equals 1, since they are the same, the negative 1 is the coordinate system (up or right are positive, down or left is negative) in relation to the origin.

the value of sin and Cos is always less than 1 because sin is equals two perpendicular ÷ hypotenuse and perpendicular is always smaller than hypotenuse so it is not possible that sin is greater than 1 same case in cos also cos is equals to base divided by hypotenuse and base is always smaller than hypotenuse so it is not possible that cos is greater than 1.

sin 90 is value is equals to one because when theta will be 90 degrees then hypotenuse will be parallel to perpendicular and so the length of hypotenuse and perpendicular is equal in this case.

cos zero is 1 because when theta will become zero then hypotenuse will be parallel or coincide with base and they will become equal in this case.
