Given:

  • x - y = -1 ---- [Equation 1]
  • 3x + 2y = 12 ---- [Equation 2]

To find:

  • Value of x and y = ?

Solution:

Multiplying Equation 1 by 2,

2x - 2y = -2 ---- [Equation 3]

Now add Equation 2 and Equation 3.

3x + 2y = 12

{+} 2x - 2y = -2

5x = 10

→ x = 10 ÷ 5

→ x = 2

Substitute the value of x in Equation 1 to find out the value of y.

x - y = -1

⇒ 2 - y = -1

⇒ y = 2 + 1

⇒ y = 3

Therefore,

  • Value of x is 2
  • Value of y is 3
