the value of x and y when a point lies on the linear equation 2x-3y=12
Answers
Given :- The value of x and y when a point lies on the linear equation 2x - 3y = 12 .
Solution :-
when x = 0
→ 2 * 0 - 3y = 12
→ (-3y) = 12
→ y = (-4) .
when y = 0
→ 2x - 3 * 0 = 12
→ 2x = 12
→ x = 6
when x = 3
→ 2*3 - 3y = 12
→ 6 - 3y = 12
→ (-3y) = 12 - 6
→ (-3y) = 6
→ y = 6/(-3)
→ y = (-2)
so, three possible values of (x , y) are (0, - 4), (6, 0) and (3, -2) .
There will be infinite number of solutions .

Given :
a point lies on the linear equation 2x-3y=12
To Find : The value of 'x' and 'y'
A. x = 0, y = -3
B. x = 2, y = 3
C. x = 3, y = -2
D. x = -2, y = 3
Solution:
2x-3y=12
x = 0
=> 2(0) - 3y = 12
=> y = - 4
Hence x = 0, y = -3 is incorrect
2x-3y=12
x = 2
=> 2(2) - 3y = 12
=> -3y = 8
=> y = - 8/3
Hence x = 2, y = 3 is incorrect
2x-3y=12
x = 3
=> 2(3) - 3y = 12
=> -3y = 6
=> y = - 2
Hence x = 3 y = -2 is correct
2x-3y=12
x = -2
=> 2(-2) - 3y = 12
=> -3y = 16
=> y = - 16/3
Hence x = -2, y = 3 is incorrect
so point is x = 3 y = -2
