the roots are equal,

 {b}^{2}  - 4ac = 0

144-16k=0

16k=144

k =  \frac{144}{16}

k = 9

Correct Question :-----

  • Find the value of k for which the quadratic Equation 4x² + 12x + k = 0 has equal roots .

Formula used :-----

  • when roots of Quadratic Equation ax²+bx+c = 0 are equal than D = (b²-4ac) is equal to zero .

Here,

4x² + 12x + k = ax²+bx+c

a = 4, b = 12 , c = k

putting values we get,

(12)² - 4 ×4 × k = 0

144 - 16k = 0

16k = 144

k = 144/16 = 9

So, value of k = 9 will satisfy the equation ...

4x²+3x+9 has equal root ..
