The values of resistances marked on the two coils Ri and R, are found to be correct. A student connects the given resistors in the following manner :

  • From given figure it is clear that, the resistors are connected in series.
  • Because, one end of the resistor R1 is connected to X and the other end is connected to resistor R2.
  • Similarly,
  • one end of the resistor R2 is connected to Y and the other end is connected to resistor R1.
  • They together completes a circle.
  • Hence they are in series.
  • Now, the resistance is given by,
  • Rs = R1 +R2
  • = 3 + 6
  • Rs = 9 ohm
