Please tell me if I have understood the question maker's trick

See here the question maker is actually spliiting a number to its addends ( numbers added to get a sum or result )

So, here think which number has addends 3 and 7 i.e., 10

So, x = 10

Similarly y = x + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14

Hence option (a) is correct

Hope it helps you

✝️The value of x and y in the given figure are:-

We shall use multiplication here because the given diagram is a factor tree. You can view the diagram in a different angle and it looks just like a factor tree i.e., it is factorization question. So obviously we don't use factorization for addition, hence here we have to use multiplication.We know that factorisation is the reverse of multiplication, just like addition is the opposite of subtraction, factorisation is the opposite of multiplication. So, here multiplication will be used, not addition. Therefore, option "B" is correct.

 \blue{ \bf{ \underline{Let's \: Solve \: It}}}

 \green{ \bf{ \implies{x = 7 \times 3}}}

 \red{ \boxed{ \bf{ = 21}}}

 \green{ \bf{ \implies{then, \: y = x \times 4}}}

 \green{ \bf{ \therefore{y = 21 \times 4}}}

 \red{ \boxed { \bf{ = 84}}}

  • Factor tree is a type of diagram that is used to find prime factors of natural numbers.

  • Factor tree is very easy to draw. You just need to write the number, then write their pair of factors.

  • The process of writing an expression in the form of terms or brackets which are multiplied together is called factorisation.

  • Each Term and each bracket is called a factor of the expression.

  • Multiplication is the mathematical operation of arithmetic.

  • The final value of multiplication operation is known as product.
