noise was the monotonous chug-chug of the launch.
The river narrowed, and the current flowed more swiftly. The bushes
seemed more impenetrable than ever, the branches overhead denser
. In
the distance a faint booming could be heard. Then the launch
round a bend - and there were the falls. Everyone gazed spellbound
at the beautiful cascade that was at least one hundred and fifty metres
high. The air was cloudy with spray, and as the sun shone on the vapour
it seemed as if a rainbow had suddenly come to life.
