The velocity distribution for flow over a flat plate is given by u = 0.75y- y2 in which u is the velocity in m/s at a distance of y m above the plate. Determine the shear stress in N/m2 at y =0.15 m. Take dynamic viscosity of fluid as 8.5 poise.​

given =  u = 0.75y - Y² ;   Y = 0.15  we can also write u = 3/4 y - y²

to find = shear stress

solution ;-

u = 3/4 y - Y²

∴ du/dy = 3/4 - 2y

Y =0.15 .......given

du/ dy = 3/4 - 2× 0.15 = 0.75 - 0.30 = 0.45

shear tress = u.du/dy

∴ shear stress = 8.5 × 10⁻5 X 0.45

hence ,shear stress = 3.825 X 10⁻⁵N/m²
