cos²A = 1-sin²A, i.e., cosA =

 \frac{ + }{}  \sqrt{1 - sin {}^{2} \: a }

This gives

cosA =

 \sqrt{1 - sin {}^{2} a}

Hence,

tanA =

 \frac{sin \: a}{cos \: a}  =  \frac{sin \: a}{ \sqrt{1 - sin {}^{2} }  \: a}
