initial velocity = u final velocity = v = u/2
distance = s = 6 cm
apply v² = u² + 2 a s => u²/4 = u² + 2 a 6 => -3/4 u² = 12 a
a = - 1/16 u² a is -ve and so it is slowing down
apply again v² = u² + 2a S
now v =0. initial speed = u²/4 So 0 = u²/4 - 2 1/16 u² S
S = 2 cm

because velocity is inversely proportional to the distance travelled
