The velocity of sound in air at room
temperature is 333 m/s. An air column is
33.3 cm in length. Find the frequency of the
fifth overtone in a pipe when it is
1.closed at one end.

According to your question

given that

velocity of sound (v)=333m/s

length of air column(L)=33.3cm

we know that in closed organ pipe,

the frequency of nth overtone will be

=(2n-3)v/4L

then, for fifth overtone

=(2×5-3)×333/4×33.3×10^-2

=7×333×10^3/4×333

=1450Hz

Now, for open organ pipe it will be

=(n-1)v/2L

=(5-1)×333/2×33.3×10^-2

=4×333×10^3/2×333

=2000Hz

I hope it will be helpful for you.
