The velocity time graph for a body moving along a straight line is as shown in figure. Find the displacement of the body in 10s of it's motion.

Answer:

If the velocity time graph is given, in order get the displacement we need to find the area under velocity - time curve.

Area above time axis (x - axis) is taken to be +ve displacement

Area below time axis (x - axis) is taken to be -ve displacement

Total displacement = Area of OABC + CDEF + FGHI

Area of

OABC = 2 x (+4) = +8m

CDEF = 6 x (-2) = -12m

FGHI = 2 x (+6) = +12m

Total displacement = (+8 -12 +12) = +8m

The displacement is +8m in 10s
