The velocity-time graph for motion of two bodies A and B is as shown. Read the graph carefully and answer the following questions:

Which of the two bodies has a higher velocity at time
t = 2s (b) t= 4s?
Which of the two bodies has (a) constant velocity (b) increasing velocity?
At what time is the velocity of the two bodies same?
What is the velocity of A and B at time t=1s?
What is the change in the velocity of body B over a 2 second interval ?

Answer:

let us take the body moving with uniform velocity as A and the other moving with uniform acceleration B(having inclined slope).

1. a) at t = 2s body A has higher velocity

b) at t = 4s body B has higher velocity.

2. a) body A has constant velocity .

b) body B has increasing velocity.

3. at t = 3s the velocity of the two bodies is same .

4. at t = 1s velocity of

body A is 30m/s and body B is 10m/s.

5. at first time interval (that is at t = 2s) the velocity is 20m/s. And at second time interval (that is at t = 4s) the velocity is 40m/s.

change in velocity = velocity at second interval - velocity at first interval

= (40-20)m/s

= 20m/s

Explanation:

Given the velocity-time graph for motion of two bodies A and B.

As it is not mentioned, let us say the body moving with uniform velocity is A and the body moving with uniform acceleration is B.

1. At t = 2s, body A has higher velocity, v = 30m/s.

     At t = 4s, body B has higher velocity, v = 40m/s.

2. Body A is moving constant velocity, v = 30m/s.

Body B has increasing velocity, started with 0m/s and maximum it                                                                                           reached to 40m/s in 4 seconds.

3. At t = 3s, the velocity of the two bodies is same, both equal to 30m/s.

4. The velocity of A at time t=1s is 30m/s and that of B is 10m/s.

5. The initial velocity of body B, u=0m/s

   After the time interval, t = 2s, the velocity v= 20m/s

  The change in the velocity,  \Delta v = v-u

                                                      = (20-0)m/s=20m/s

Therefore, the change in the velocity is 20m/s.
