The velocity - time graphs of two particles moving in a straight line are shown in the adjoining figure. (i) Which of the two particles has greater acceleration and how much? (ii) Calculate the difference between the distances travelled by the particles in 10 seconds (See Lesson-2)

  1. According to the graph particle A has more acceleration. As we know that acceleration is change in velocity with respect to time. It is approximately 50 meter per square second
  2. If we assume that the graph has an interval of 5 seconds on x-axis then velocity of particle A corresponding to 10 seconds is 25, and that for particle B is 17. Since, we know that velocity is equal to distance per unit time. Thus,

Distance for particle A= 250

Distance for particle B= 170

Difference in the distances = 80 meters
