Graph is of velocity- time relationship.

The graph in which the straight line is parallel to time axis and is showing a particular value of velocity throughout the journey. Here, the body moves with constant velocity. The speed or velocity is uniform, hence magnitude remains same. Here, as the slope or tan θ, is 0, hence the acceleration is 0.

✦ Discussing the three graphs:

  • GRAPH-1 : The body is moving with constant velocity as there is no variation in the value of velocity with change in time. The graph is parallel to x - axis (straight line). Here, acceleration is 0.
  • GRAPH-2 : As we can see that the graph is not a straight line, it is a curve. Hence, the velocity is variable and also have a variable acceleration, as the acceleration is not increasing at a constant rate.
  • GRAPH-3 : Here, the graph is a straight line but not parallel to x axis, which means that it is having variable velocity and constant acceleration as the slop is increasing at a constant speed.

A graph is a straight, curve, a line showing the relation between two variables, of which one changes with other. The quantities which changes independently is known as independent variable and which depends is known as dependent variable. In motion, we have different graphs like displacement time graph, velocity time graph and acceleration time graph.

  • Here, time is an independent quantity because it varies independently.
  • And rest distance, velocity or acceleration are dependent quantities, because they depend upon the time.
