The vernier constant of vernier callipers is 0.01 cm. While measuring the diameter of a metal cylinder, the
main scale reading is 1.2 cm and 6th division of vernier scale is coinciding with a main scale division. Find
the diameter of metal cylinder. Given that there is no zero error in the given vernier callipers.

Answer:

L.C. = 0.01 cm

Error = + 0.02 cm ⇒ Positive zero

error = + 0.02 cm

main scale reading (MSR) = 1.2cm 6th vernier scale coincides with main scale

⇒ vernier coincidence (VC) = 6

We know that

Correct diameter = [main scale reading+ (L.C × V.C)] - (error)

= [1.2 + (0.01 × 6)] - [+ 0.002]

= (1.2 + 0.06)- (+0.02)

= 1.26 - 0.02

= 1.24 cm

∴correctradius=diameter/2=1.2/2

=0.6cm
