it is known as hoffman's voltameter.
Hydrogen(2 volumes ) evolved at cathode and one vol of oxygen at anode.
water has to be acidified with dil. sulfuric acid to convert water molecules to ions as pure water is almost only consisting of undissociated molecules and not ions.(due to covalent bond between hydrogen and oxygen in water molecules)
