Let us suppose that volume of 1MHCl(V1)=xL1MHCl(V1)=xL

So Volume of 5M HCl required to make 2L of 2MHCl(V2)=(2−x)L2MHCl(V2)=(2−x)L

Let us take M1=1MM1=1M and M2=5MM2=5M

We know that

Molarity of the mixture is given by the equation

M1V1+M2V2V1+V2=M3M1V1+M2V2V1+V2=M3

x+5(2−x)2=2x+5(2−x)2=2

x+10−5x=4x+10−5x=4

x=1.5Lx=1.5L

∴∴ Volume of 1M HCl = 1.5L

and Volume of 5MHCl=(2−X)L=(2−1.5L)=0.5L
