The volume of 1g each of methane,ethane,propane and butane was measured at 350 K & 1 atm. What is volume of butane.
Answers
Given: Mass of Methane = 1g
Mass of Ethane = 1g
Mass of Propane = 1g
Mass of Butane = 1g
Temperature = 350 K
Pressure 1 atm
To Find :- Volume of Butane =?
Solution:-
- Mass of methane (CH4) , ethane (CH3CH3), propane(CH3CH2CH3) and butane(CH3CH2CH2CH3) is 1 g as given in the question.
- The values of temperature and pressure is also given i.e
T= 350 K
P = 1 atm
- Molecular mass of Butane (CH3CH2CH2CH3) is
= 58
- From The Ideal gas equation we have,
PV = nRT
where, R is the gas constant having value ,
= 0.0821
and, n is the no. of moles whose formula is,
n = Given mass/ Molecular mass
- By putting the values we get,
1 × V = 1 × 0.0821 × 350 / 58
V = 0.495 L or 495 ml or 495cm^3
- So, The volume of Butane is 495ml ot 495 cm^3.
