We make the number into two groups: 056 and 636
&lt;big&gt;6&lt;/big&gt; as the units digit since in 056 the units digit is 6 and only the numbers ending with 6 have their cube's unit digit as 6.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;<br /><br />8³ &lt; 636 &lt; 9³&lt;br&gt;<br />512 &lt; 636 &lt; 729&lt;br&gt;<br />&lt;br&gt;<br />The smaller number here is 8, so the tens digit would be &lt;big&gt;8&lt;/big&gt;.

So, \: \sqrt[3]{636056} = \large{\boxed{86}}
