The volume of a gas weighing 8gm was expended at a constant temperature until the pressure of the gas reduced to one- half of its initial value.It was found that 500 ml of the gas weighed 1.25 gm.
I) what was the original volume of the gas.

ii) Determine the density of the gas In gm/l.

Answer:

i) Initial volume = 1600 ml

ii) density = 5 gm/l

Explanation:

by PV=nRT

as R and T are constants

P1 V1/ n1 = P2 V2 / n2

Suppose P1 = p

n1 = 8g / M

and P2 = p/2

n2 = 1.25/M

V2 = 500 ml

so

p × V1 × M /8 =. p × 500 × M / 2 × 1.25

from here we get ,

V1 = 1600 ml

now density ,

mass / volume = 8 × 1000 / 1600

= 5 gm/l
