The volume of a plastic covered sealed box is 350cm3 and the box has a massive 500g . Will the box float on water or sink in water ? What will be the mass of water displaced by the box?

Density of the massive 500g sealed box=(Mass of the box)/(Volume of the box )

=500/350

= 1.428 g cm-3

Here the density of the box is more than that of water, i.e. 1 g cm-3. Therefore, it will sink in water.

Mass of water displaced by the box = volume of the box * density of water

= 350 cm3 * 1 g/cm3 = 350 g
