Given info : 400ml of nitrogen combines with 1.2L of hydrogen at STP.

To find : the volume of NH₃ formed at STP is ...

solution : we know,

                          N₂ (g) + 3H₂ (g) ⇒ 2NH₃ (g)

one mole of nitrogen reacts with 3 moles of hydrogen to form two moles of ammonia.

∴ 22.4 L of nitrogen reacts with 3 × 22.4 L = 67.2 L of hydrogen to form 2 × 22.4 L = 44.8 L of ammonia.

∴ 1 L of nitrogen reacts with 3L of hydrogen to form 2L of ammonia.

∴ 400 ml of nitrogen reacts with 3 × 400 ml = 1.2L  of hydrogen to form 2 × 400 = 800ml  of ammonia.

therefore the volume of NH₃ formed at STP is 800 ml.
