the volume of nitrogen gas is 1250 ml at 760 mm pressure and the volume of oxygen gas is 1800 ml
a 900 mm pressure. If both gases are filled in 1900 ml container respectively at constant temperature
what would be the total pressure of the gas mixture? (ans: 1352.6mm)

ANSWER

PV=nRT

For Argon, P=760 mm Hg=1 atm

V=0.25L

So, n=

RT

1×0.25

=

4RT

1

For Nitrogen, P=500 mm Hg=

760

500

atm

V=0.06L

So, n=

760RT

500×0.06

=

76RT

After mixing both the gases,

Total number of moles of both the gases, n=

4RT

1

+

76RT

=

304RT

88

V=1L

P=

V

nRT

=

304RT

×760 mm Hg=220 mm Hg
