Say W is the original wage bill.

∵ Number of laborers × Wage = Wage Bill

According to the question,

⇒ W : 5000 = (22 × 15) : (25 × 11)

⇒W/5000=330/275

⇒ W = 5000 × (330/275) = Rs.6000

The original wage bill is Rs. 6000.

Ratio of the increase in wages = 22:25  (Given)

Ratio of decrease in the labourers = 15:11  (Given)

Present bill amount = Rs. 5000  (Given)

Compound ratio of wages of labourers

= 22 x 15 : 25 x 11

= 330 : 275

For ratio of 275 the wages will be = Rs. 5000

For ratio of 1 the wages will be = 5000/275

For ratio of 330 the wages will be = 5000/275 x 330

= 6000

Therefore, the original wage bill was Rs. 6000.
