The wall clock shown above falls on the ground & breaks into two pieces. The sum of one portion is 31 & the other portion is 30. How does the clock break?

Solution:

As we know that clock have numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12

sum of all the numbers are 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9+10+11+12 = 78

but according to the question clock broke into two parts ,sum of numbers in one part is 30 and on other is 31.

On adding we get 30+31 = 61
which is not equal to 78.

that means clock broke in between the numbers,as shown in the picture attached.

1st part have numbers 0, 9, 10, 11, 1
because 8 broke in between gives 0 two times same way 12 broke in between gives 1 and 2

on adding 0+9+10+11+1 = 31

on second part 2+1+2+3+4+5+6+7 = 30

According to the given the question

Sum of first part is 31

And sum of second part is 30  

Assume Clock break according to given image

This the possibility which leads sum 31 and 30.

So,

 First part numbers are 0,9,10,11,1

 Second part numbers are 2,1,2,3,4,5,6,7.
