The walls of trachea do not collapse even when there is less air in it because in the middle of the trachea are cartilaginous rings. (Cartilage is a strong but flexible tissue.)

[Rings of cartilage are present in the trachea because it provide flexibility and support to the trachea permitting it to move it and flex when breathing.]
