Answer:
This is the story of Lalita Gupta – a wife, a mother, and a COVID warrior. When the country went into lockdown, several daily wage workers lost their pay, with many losing jobs altogether. The situation became dire in Lalita’s house, too. However, in this adversity, she found an opportunity to help the community, while also easing the financial burden on her family.
She officially got on board as a COVID volunteer in her city, Indore. Braving the risk of exposure during this pandemic, she plies frontline healthcare workers to and back from work, in her electric rickshaw.
"I'm not afraid", Lalita says. She understands that there is a risk but insists that someone must come forward in times like these. As a precaution, she wears full protection gear and regularly sanitises her vehicle. She has also created sections in the rickshaw to ensure social distancing is maintained and neither she nor the passengers are at risk.
"I'm out there doing my bit for the country, and I can do so without worrying about the house. My husband is very supportive. He takes care of the house, the kids and the kitchen when I’m unable to manage my time.", she says. While her family does worry about her safety, they are also very proud of her. "They’re happy that I’m contributing to the fight against this pandemic."
As she and her colleagues work tirelessly to help fight the pandemic, she believes that people who can stay home and do not really need to move out, should follow the protocol strictly.
“There are people who can work from home, why are they unnecessarily heading out and putting others at risk? At the same time, essential workers should not be scared and stay back home. They should come out and do their duty.”. She believes that if everyone simultaneously does their bit, the country will come out of this crisis faster.
Mahindra is proud of Lalita Gupta and salutes her bravery in going out to assist the frontline health workers. If you know someone who is doing their bit to help the community fight this crisis, tag them or share their stories with us in the comments.
