Here, P is an aquifer, Q is soil, R is permeable rocks, and S is the water table.

  • An aquifer (P) is a water-holding body of rocks that holds water underground. It is of 2 types- confined and unconfined.
  • It is made up of soil (Q) and permeable rocks (R) or sediments which are porous that let the rainwater pass through it and get collected underground above the bedrock which is non-permeable.
  • The part of aquifers above the ground (its top layer) is called surface water (S) which basically consists of lakes, ponds, rivers, and any natural source of water above the ground.
