The water table may be at a depth of several metres or may be less than a meter below the ground why?

Answer:It IS because people waste a lot of water,which significantly reduce the level of water in the water table. Sometime water cannot penetrate and gets dried up in the air. So we have dig a long way down to find very little water.

But some times if the water is not overused , it can be found within few metres with large quantities but often people misuse these hence resulting DROUGHT ETC
