Explanation:

The wavelengths involved in the spectrum of deuterium are slightly different from that of hydrogen spectrum, because (a) size of the two nuclei are different (b) nuclear forces are different in the two cases (c) masses of the two nuclei are different (d) attraction between the electron and the nucleus is different in the two cases.

Hope this will help you

The wavelength involved in the spectrum of deuterium are slightly different from that of hydrogen spectrum because of the following reasons:

  • By Hydrogen, we main mean it's Protium isotope having 1 electron , 1 proton and no neutron. But Deuterium has 1 electron , 1 proton and 1 neutron.

  • So , additional mass in the nucleus of Deuterium is one cause of difference in spectrum.

  • Difference in mass of the nuclei in "Hydrogen-Like atoms" is the dominant factor in creating dissimilarity in spectrum.

  • Other factors like Forces between Nucleus and Electrons , nuclear forces don't play any major factor in this difference.

So, the main reason is difference in nuclear mass.
