The velocity of sound in liquid is 440 m/s.

Given:

The wavelength of sound in air λ1 = 1.5 m.

The wavelength of sound in liquid λ2 = 2 m.

The velocity of sound in air v1 = 330 m/s.

To Find:

The velocity of sound in liquid v2.

Solution:

Formula: v = f x λ

v1 = f x λ1

330 = f x 1.5

f = 330 / 1.5

f = 220 Hz.

The frequency of sound does not change with medium. Therefore, we can use the same frequency found previously for the system in the medium as well.

v2 = f x λ2

v2 = 220 x 2

v2 = 440 m/s.
