Given :  The weekly wages of 1000 workmen are normally distributed around a mean of 70 and a standard deviation of  5

To Find : estimate the number of workers whose weekly wages will be

More than 75

Less than 63

Solution:

Mean = 70

SD = 5

Z score = ( Value - Mean ) / SD

More than 75

=> z score = ( 75 -  70)/5  = 1

=> 84.13 % less than 75    Hence  15.87 %  more than 75

=> 1000 * 15.87 /100   = 158.7  = 159

159 workers whose weekly wages will be More than 75

Less than 63

=> z score = ( 63 -  70)/5  = -1.4

= 8.08 % less than 63

=> 1000 * 8.08 /100   = 80.8  = 81

81  workers whose weekly wages will be Less than 63
