Given:

Weight of 10 students in kg.

To Find:

The median weight of students.

Solution:

1) Median is the middle number in the given sorted data.

2) To find the median we have to sort the given data in ascending or descending order.

  • 40,52,34,47,31,35,48,41,44,38
  • 31,34,35,38,40,41,44,47,48,52 (Ascending order)

3) The number of terms in the given data are 10 so the middle value will be 5th and 6th term, and median will the mean of 5th and 6th term.

4) 5th term - 40

   6th term - 41

  • median = mean[40, 41]
  •             = 1/2[40+41]
  •             = 81/2
  •             = 40.5

The median weight of students is 40.5 Kg.

5th term - 40

  6th term - 41

median = mean[40, 41]

           = 1/2[40+41]

           = 81/2

           = 40.5
