The weight of a wooden box made of wooden planks with the thickness of 5 cm. along its covering is 115.5 kg. But the weight of the box filled with rice is 880.5 kg. The length and breadth of inner side of the box are 12 dem. and 8.5 dem. respectively and the weight of 1 cubic dem. rice is 1.5 kg. Let us write the inner height of the box after calculation. Let us calculate the total expenditure to colour the outside of the box, if the rate is 1.50 per sq. dcm.

Answer:

Given :-

  • The weight of a wooden box made of wooden planks with the thickness of 5 cm. along its covering is 115.5 kg. But the weight of the box filled with rice is 880.5 kg. The length and breadth of inner side of the box are 12 dcm. and 8.5 dcm. respectively and the weight of 1 cubic dcm. rice is 1.5 kg.

Find Out :-

  • What is the inner height of the box after calculation and the total expenditure to colour the outside of the box if the rate is 1.50 per sq.dcm.

Solutio

Weight of rice into the box = ( 880.5 - 115.5 ) = 765kg

\sf{Outside\: volume\: =\: \dfrac{765}{1.5} = \dfrac{765 \times 10}{15} = 510\:  cubic\:  dcm}

Let, the height be x dcm.

According to the question,

12 × 8.5 × x = 510

102x = 510

x = \dfrac{510}{102}

x = 5 dcm

Now,

Length with lid = ( 12 + 2 × 0.5 )= 13 dcm

Breadth with lid = ( 8.5 + 2 × 0.5 ) = 9.5 dcm

Height with lid = ( 5 + 2 × 0.5 ) = 6 dcm

Again, we have to find the total surface area,

➡ T.S.A = 2(13 × 9.5 + 13 × 6 + 9.5 × 6) sq.dcm

➡ T.S.A =2(123.5+78+57) sq.dcm

➡ T.S.A =2×258.5 sq.dcm

➡ T.S.A = 517 sq.dcm

Now,

Total cost = Rs .(517 × 1.50) = Rs 775.50

\therefore The total expenditure to colour the outside of the box is Rs 775.50 .
